Suburbs for Equality is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed at utilizing the disproportionate economic and political power invested in suburban communities in order to achieve intersectional equality and lower the opportunity and achievement gap between urban and suburban communities. We seek to engage all members of our community, especially the youth and our elected representatives, through civic engagement, activism, and education.

Suburbs for Equality was created in response to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. The killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others sparked protests for racial justice around the globe. For many Americans, this movement was a wake up call to the numerous injustices and inequalities that still plague our country. These protests have reached beyond America's major cities. They're happening in all 50 states, in urban and suburban areas. We realized that, due to the economic and political privilege we have as community members of suburban areas, we have a specific duty to educate our community, as well as assist with uplifting those in other communities.

Together, we rise.

Our Mission

OUR MISSION

To utilize the disproportionate economic and political power invested in suburban communities in order to achieve intersectional equality in our own residential areas and in our urban and rural neighboring communities.

OUR GOALS

  • To unify organizers within suburban communities in order to share information, expertise and platforms.

  • To connect organizers within suburban communities with those in both urban and rural communities, to amplify the voices of the underserved.

  • To utilize the connections made within the network of organizers in order to run state and nation-wide campaigns that will maximize the impact of organizers.

  • To raise funds for local, state and national campaigns and events that work towards equality.

  • To minimize the disparities within suburban, urban and rural communities through both microscopic and macroscopic efforts.

  • To sponsor civic efforts on a local, state and national level that work towards reducing disparities.
